Countrary to a spanish bull-fight, these are bull races. The goal is not to kill the bull but instead to grab a little medal (cocarde) attached between the horns. There are about 10 runners (raseteurs) all at once in the arena and they will try to grab the medal while the bull is looking somewhere else. Of course, as soon as they get in there the bull starts to go for the runners and they have to get out of there by leaping over the fence.
Sometimes the bull gets angry and jumps after them, causing quite a stir in the public. These were young bulls, and it was their first time in the arena, but a good one will race for 10 years or more. All in all this was good fun, but its nothing like a bull fight. The runners have none of the grace or courage of the matador, and the show doesn't match in one intensity or passion.
This is as close as I got to a bull... The statue in front of the arena.
