Collonges-la-Rouge

:: 7 SEP 2003 :: Collonges-la-Rouge, Corrèze, France

Collonges-la-Rouge

Collonges-la-rouge is a small picturesque village in an area where the stones are red, hence the name... Vines are growing along the facades and fences, its really very nice. But Collonges was quite far from Chenonceau and we took longer than expected to get there. We found out the hard way that the French are particularly inflexible with the time to eat — this is was a sunday on top of everything else — and we were not able to find anywhere they'd serve us... We were all quite grumpy through the afternoon.

After Collonges, we headed to Sarlat-la-Canéda (Périgord) and got there in time for dinner. I have great memories from that dinner at Le Bouffon, but I am sure that this was in part due to our state of starvation. Sarlat has a beautiful old town core which we visited by night, so unfortunately there are no photos... We stayed at a hotel straight out of the 70s, with a futuristic/space age/retro lobby if that can be imagined.
